We would love for you to consider joining Alberta Farmers’ Market Association’s (AFMA’s) board of directors for the 2020 – 2023 term. We are looking for ambitious Farmers’ Market entrepreneurs and managers to assist with current projects as well as the development of future projects to improve our market community.
The mission of the Alberta Farmers’ Market Association (AFMA) is to foster partnerships to stimulate farmers’ market initiatives; work collaboratively to assess, develop and implement policies and guidelines that will strengthen the quality of farmers’ markets in Alberta; provide support to our member markets, vendors, managers, boards and sponsors through advocacy, education, promotion and innovation.
To give you an idea of what this entails here are some of the projects we are currently working on: post-secondary liaison with NAIT and Grant McEwan, Market Buds children’s program, convention committee currently partnered with Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association (AFFPA), advocacy with Alberta Health Services, insurance, local food week, working with the food bank, as well as a creation of a new Provincial Audit Committee to create a vendor verification program as well as creating other new partnerships.
The time commitment involved for our board members is 10 monthly (we do not meet in August or December) Face to Face meeting usually held at the Red Deer Provincial Building the first Monday of the month from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, AFMA will provides a mileage allowance as well as lunch, attendance of our annual conference which is usually held the end of February, plus the time to meet with other committee members by phone or in person to shepherd your project.
